At a number of occasions, various health advocates have met and expressed an interest in developing a way to exchange ideas, strategies, and create a sense of profession. In the Spring of 2006, a diverse group of health advocates met more formally to consider whether there was a need for an association, and what activities, ideals, and ethics members would feel bound by. Since then, this core group has met by phone and email, and is continuing to move forward. The HAA is being formed to serve a membership of health advocates.
